Broken record
August 11, 2008 8:52 am MusicIs anyone else as incensed as I am at how much a decent turntable costs these days?
99.99999% of my music collection is on CD or in digital file format, but I do own a few vinyl LPs. Some music just sounds better than way (especially classic rock and metal), and considering that you can nab old records at tag sales for a dollar or so, what’s not to like?
The problem is finding a good record player. I’ve found a few at tag sales, but they’re always in rough shape. So I’d search online for a new one, only to glare at my screen when I see the $100+ price tags. (And those are the cheap ones!)
Are you fucking serious?! Hundreds of dollars for a technology that’s over a century old?! We always make things cheaper, smaller, and more reliable over time, but for vinyl buffs, holy shit do they get fucked. It’s almost certainly the manufacturers taking advantage of these audiophiles, but it also screws over those of use who just have a few records we’d like to listen to.
Just get rid of all of the extra bullshit (like USB ports and iPod docks), and give us a regular turntable at a reasonable price. It’s not difficult, you soulless bastards…make it happen!
